Official mission of the Mayor of Lyon, the President of Grand Lyon, to Birmingham (United Kingdom) - 29 October

When he was in Lyon on 27 August 2013 on the occasion of the inauguration of the Avenue de Birmingham, the Mayor of Birmingham invited a delegation from Lyon to look round the major urban schemes launched in 2005 in the context of the Big City Plan, an urban development plan described as one of the most daring redevelopment and building projects currently undertaken in the United Kingdom.
The delegation will visit in particular the new library which opened its doors in September 2013, and the collections of which contain one million works and rare items such as the first portfolio of Shakespeare. This library extends to 31,000 m2, can receive up to 10,000 visitors per day and represents an investment of 200 million euro.
This mission is also an opportunity to strengthen the partnership established in July 2012 between the municipality of Birmingham and Lyon's Festival of Light at the celebration of the centenary of Bournville College in the Longbridge area, with the scenography for the occasion designed by two teams of artists from Lyon.
There will be time too for the professional exchanges existing between leaders in Lyon and in Birmingham on the occasion of a dinner prepared by Adam Bennett, winner of the best meat dish award at the 2013 Bocuse d'Or.
