The Vaulx-en-Velin Urban Free Zone is part of the first generation of ZFU’s, created in 1996.

  • It covers one third of the town’s total land area.
  • It is based around the town centre, which is undergoing an extensive programme of urban renewal, and represents one aspect of the area’s city project.

  • almost 1,250 businesses
  • 6,000 jobs, or almost one third of all jobs in the community
  • the number of businesses increased by 30% between 2000 and 2004, and increased by 9% between 2004 and 2006
  • a high concentration of business services and construction companies.

In 2006, the Vaulx-en-Velin community provided a total of 18,760 jobs. In a broader context, it is part of the “Rhône Amont” Mayors’ Conference
