Lyon Vaise, the urban area's digital center

Located to the west of Lyon, close to the city centre and very well connected, the Lyon Vaise district has gradually become the leading site for digital activities in the urban territory.

The digital industry's leading names

The video game industry, which is represented by a large number of companies in the city, was the first to initiate development.

Today, leaders in software edition, information technology engineering and support activities (communication, marketing, human resources, banking and insurance) fill the Lyon Vaise district. They include:

  • Cegid,
  • Electronic Arts,
  • Atari,
  • Namco Bandai Partners,
  • Akka Technologies,
  • the Pathé multiplex,
  • I-Way and
  • Audigier.

These companies enjoy a high-quality implantation facing the panorama of the Saône river banks and wooded hills.

Accessibility

The Lyon Vaise district is rapidly accessible from western Lyon, the Monts d'Or and the eastern part of the urban agglomeration though the Périphérique Nord beltway connection; it is also connected to:

  • the northern beltway boulevard and
  • the A6 and A7 highways.

Located along the Saône, it is close to the city centre and the Lyon Vaise multimodal hub, which includes:

  • metro line D,
  • TER trains and
  • a bus station.

A second tube is being developed for the Lyon Croix-Rousse tunnel and will be used for non-motorized transportation. It will be operational in 2013.

A new bridge will also be delivered in 2014 (the Schumann bridge).

Current new programs

At the end of the second work phase, 80,000 m2 of net surface area in offices and 54,000 m2 of net surface area in lodgings will have been created.

Several office programs are almost ready for delivery:

  • ICMI, 13,400 m2; 
  • Spywest, 6,000 m2, including over 2,000 m2 for digital companies, with
    • a company incubator managed by the Edit Cluster, and
    • the headquarters of the Sud Architectes firm;
  • Espace 50, developed by Fyiling: services including
    • restaurant services - Mix'City and
    • three-star hotels with 102 rooms, as well as
    • a luxury office building, the Rive Ouest (3,770 m2).
    • Work is currently in progress and delivery is planned for mid 2012.

By 2015, 36,000 m2 of office buildings will be built in addition to the programs already underway. In the heart of the district, 650 lodgings and a number of businesses will be built. They will benefit from the development of the Saône river banks planned for 2016.

Greenopolis, a new business park at Lyon Vaise

This urban project is oriented toward sustainable development and quality of life and concerns the reconversion of a former industrial holding into a mixed business park. In Lyon, it is currently one of the few operations that enables acquiring premises in the city centre.

Accessibility

Greenopolis is located near the city centre and the Lyon Vaise multimodal hub, which includes metro line D, TER trains and a car station.

An avant-garde program

Made up of three buildings inherited from an industrial past and seven new buildings offered for rental or purchase, the site is divided into three strips featuring

  • a company village,
  • offices and
  • business activities.

EM2C, the developer, has paid careful attention to the environmental dimension of the architecture and has created an avant-garde program in sustainable development. There are

  • abundant natural lighting and appropriate solar protection,
  • use of high-quality materials,
  • central production of heat and cooling with a wood furnace and a cold-absorption unit, and 
  • planted roofs that reinforce insulation and limit rainwater run-off.

Key figures

21 500 m2 of surface area, including:

  • 8 674 m2 of offices and a company village
  • 12 238 m2 of businesses and commercial activities
  • 277 parking places, including 179 underground

Currently being finished, the program will be fully delivered in late 2012 or early 2013.
