After having welcomed to Lyon a large Korean delegation for Innorobo 2012, the European Robotics fair, it was the turn of Greater Lyon to go to Seoul to promote the robotics sector at Robot World 2012.

Robot World 2012, a very visible Lyon delegation

The Robot World fair which took place from 25 to 28 October 2012 at Kintex is one of the largest robotics trade fairs in the world. It includes some 200 businesses and about 100,000 visitors, both trade and individuals.

In partnership with Syrobo and under the ONLYLYON banner, the Lyon delegation, accompanied by regional businesses in the sector, ran the French Pavilion.

This year France was the most visible foreign country at this huge fair, gathering together, without distinction, all forms of robots - from military to leisure not forgetting transport, health or education - manufactured, for the most part by Korean businesses.

Robot World 2012, encouraging institutional partnerships with business

At the heart of the main hall, the Robot Excellence France stand represented a lot of hard work from Lyon. This delegation was led under the chairmanship of Karine Dognin Sauze, vice-chair of Greater Lyon in charge of innovation and new technologies and Jean-Michel Daclin, vice-chair of Greater Lyon, and delegate for international relations and the attractiveness of the area.

The aim of this trip to South Korea was very clear - to encourage institutional partnerships with businesses in the areas of the smart grid, digitisation, culture and of course robotics.

An ONLYLYON evening was therefore organised on 26 October 2012 in Seoul in order to demonstrate the Lyon way of life to Korean deciders. The chef, Guy Lassausaie, with two Michelin stars, was therefore asked to prepare drinks and snacks revisiting recipes from the Lyon area. This evening was a great success hosting over 150 people, for the most part Korean business leaders as well as upper echelons of the Korean government.

Future Franco-Korean co-operation is already ensured with the next Innorobo which will also host in Lyon in March 2013 the European Robotic Forum which gathers 400 of the best European researchers in the sector.
