Galien Awards, France and International 2012: Lyon celebrated international innovation in medical treatment

The French and International Galien Awards were awarded on 4 October 2012 in the presence of over 300 guests - the elite of research and the pharmaceutical industry worldwide - gathered for this prestigious occasion in the Lyon Town Hall.

Galien Award France 2012: the prize-winners

For the 43rd ceremony the Galien France Award rewarded innovative treatments and research teams as follows:

  • Medicine used for treatments in hospital :
    • Bocéprevir (Victrelis®),
    • Télaprévir (Incivo®);
  • Medicines to treat rare diseases, cell therapies and gene therapies:
    • Genethon;
  • Research:
    • Professor Michel Lazdunski for a lifetime's research work and
    • The gene therapy unit run by Professor Salima Hacein-Bey Abina.

International Galien Award 2012: Prize-winner

The Galien International Award is to reward the best of the best among the winners in each organising country.

The 12th International Galien Prize was awarded to the Janssen Laboratories for Ustekinumab Stelera®, for the treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis.

Galien Awards 2012: taking place in Lyon, a centre of excellence and solidarity

To highlight its humanitarian credentials and solidarity with others at these awards the City of Lyon wanted to recognise the commitment of Professor Ogobara Doumbo, one of the greatest malaria specialists. This scientist from Mali with an international reputation has been award the Medal of Honour.
