31 March 2015
On Thursday, 19 March 2015, the French Football Federation announced that France had been awarded the hosting rights for the Women’s World Football Cup in 2019, also called the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019.
Lyon’s submission, supported by the Métropole de Lyon in cooperation with Olympique Lyonnais, contributed greatly to this success and to the credibility of France’s candidature.
The reputation of Olympique Lyonnais’ women’s team and the modernity of its stadium prompted the national and international authorities to choose Lyon to host the opening match and the final.
Following the 6 Euro 2016 UEFA matches awarded to Lyon, this is a further triumph for the Métropole de Lyon!
