Axel'One: introduction of the Ener 110 super-calculator to encourage low carbon innovation

On the 29th January 2013, IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) inaugurated the Ener 110 super-calculator on its Lyon Saint-Fons site. This new equipment made available to Axel'One partners will be used for collaborative projects by those working in public and private research in the Rhône-Alpes region.

The Ener 110 super-calculator is a major asset in the development of technological innovation designed to meet the challenges of energy transition.

Ener 110, access to high performing calculations

Innovation is vital for overcoming the challenges of any energy transition linked to climate change, for the diversification of energy and the management of water resources. At the heart of the development of new designs and products, access to a high performing calculator has become one of the challenges of innovation and competitiveness.

Supported by European funds and by the Rhône-Alpes region, the Ener 110 super-calculator brings to IFPEN and its regional partners powerful simulation and modelling possibilities thus shortening development times significantly.

Ener 110, in the service of Axel'OneInnovation in Greater Lyon

Open to universities de Lyon and manufacturers in the chemical/environmental field, among which is IFPEN, the Axel'One innovation platform makes available infrastructure and services that encourage collaborative projects dedicated to clean procedures and innovative materials.

One third of the calculating power of the super-calculator is made available the the Axel'One partners- and to projects hosted by them, in particular those that form part of the institute of excellence IDEEL - who are thus able to use ENER 110 capacity to investigate major technological challenges.

With Ener 110, IFPEN and its partners are able to increase their calculating power and so speed-up the development of innovative low carbon solutions that encourage the development of new competitive economic processes.

The Axel'One collaborative innovation platform relies on the development of 3 distinct and complementary real estate projects dedicated to R&D and situated on 3 different sites in the Lyon conurbation:

  • the Campus module situated on the LyonTech-la Doua Campus,
  • the Innovative Processes Platform module (PPI) situated at Solaize,
  • the Innovative Materials Platform (PMI) situated at Saint-Fons.

Greater Lyon has been actively engaged in the finding and supporting of partners for the project.
