The Lyon urban area economic strategy is the fruit of a real "economic governance", that is unique in France. It is drafted in partnership with 6 institutions representing the world of business organisations:
Lyon, a city among cities
European projects global economic development Lyon's active role in the most important urban networks, both in Europe (EuroCities) and around the world (United Cities and Local Governments, or UCLG), contributes to its international influence, particularly in political and cultural terms.
Lyon seeks to make solidarity one of the driving forces behind its policies. To this end, Lyon urban community has moved from bilateral twinning to multilateral public/private partnerships and is particularly committed to providing training for people in developing countries.
Lyon, a city of influences
In addition to the towns and villages that make up Lyon urban community, the communities of:
- Tarare,
- Villefranche-sur-Saône,
- Vienne,
- Bourgoin,
- l'Aéroport Saint-Exupéry et
- Saint-Etienne
all contribute to the dynamism and attraction of the metropolitan area.
Lyon has chosen to combine its economic and institutional assets under a single banner: "ONLYLYON", the first such example of city branding in France.

In Lyon, businesses are at the heart of Lyon's economic life. Encouraging their creation, return or development remains a priority for Lyon urban community.
All of the urban area's economic players are developing a common policy to encourage the creation, return and transmission of local companies: "Lyon Ville de l'Entrepreneuriat" ("Lyon City of Entrepreneurship"). This quality label gathers together 24 structures to assist entrepreneurs in the creation of their companies.
