In France and internationally, the Lyon urban area is positioned as a key Life Sciences center, thanks to 3 main areas of excellence: infectious diseases, cancerology and the neurosciences.

The Life Sciences in Lyon now represent:

  • 600 companies, including global leaders (Sanofi Pasteur, bioMérieux, Mérial, Merck-Serono and others) and subsidiaries of international corporations, plus
  • 150 academic research laboratories
  • 40 hospitals
  • for a total of 70,000 jobs

All conveying the vitality and richness of this sector of excellence.


Greater Lyon places a premium on public/private partnerships

Within the framework of its development strategy in the Life Sciences, Greater Lyon seeks to boost public/private partnerships and cooperation, a key factor of success in the process of innovation and for the development of local areas.

This is why Greater Lyon has worked:

  • to set up the Lyonbiopôle competitive cluster and the Canceropôle CLARA research cluster, which are genuine springboards for exchange between manufacturers, clinicians and academics,
  • and for the creation of the Innovation in Infectiology advanced research network, FINOVI.

Greater Lyon financially supports the actions of these organizations, as well as key projects for the urban area in connection with the Life Sciences.

In order to support this strategy, Greater Lyon encourages and fosters development and the financing of innovative projects in order to support/accelerate the transfer to market of these projects,

  • whether in the context of the actions of Canceropôle or Lyonbiopôle,
  • or as part of the partnership approach of LyonBioAdvisor (assistance of new companies, development of research laboratories and communication / promotion of research laboratories).

With the support of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), Lyon Science Transfer and Créalys, Greater Lyon organizes bioInnovation Day,

  • a unique day dedicated to the development and transfer of Life Sciences and Healthcare Technologies.

  • that brings together 150 local manufacturers and academics in the sector,
