United Cities and Local Governments is the main organisation which represents local governments before the United Nations. Its members are cities and national associations for the implementation of the United Nations Millennium goals.

Lyon's action in the international UCLG network

Lyon and the partner cities are working together to achieve the Millennium goals: improvement of unhealthy living conditions, water management and involvement of women in local political life... At the 1st international congress held in Beijing in 2005, Lyon assumed the chairmanship and presidency of the Decentralised Cooperation Commission of the UCLG.
