The International Association of Educating Cities is a collection of cities which work on common objectives, projects and activities intended to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants. Via this movement, the member cities undertake to comply with a charter based on a local educational approach, going beyond the strictly school domain, developing a transversal approach to educational issues and making the city a co-educational agent by means of citizenship, participatory democracy, its cultural projects, its urban planning, its environmental policy etc.

Lyon's action in the international IAEC network

In 2006, Lyon organised the 9th Congress of Educating Cities. This international meeting was the opportunity for exchanges on the place of man in the city and the need to promote a new humanism to give direction once more to the development of the city and the future which is our youth.

Lyon and the cities in the network share the same aim: to build more balanced cities in which each individual can develop fairly.
