The culinary association "Les toques blanches lyonnaises" was in Birmingham (United Kingdom) in April 2014.


The two associations: "les toques blanches" of Lyon and the British Culinary Federation of Birmingham renewed their partnership agreement on 7 April 2014.

Since the early 1990's, the chefs of Birmingham – a city twinned with Lyon since 1951 – have been visiting the kitchens of Lyon’s chefs on a regular basis and reciprocal exchanges have been put in place: Lyon-style menus in Birmingham, participation by chefs from Lyon in external events for the general public, British apprentices in Lyon etc. Today, Birmingham has access to an excellence and renown, acknowledged in particular at the latest staging of the Bocuse d'Or in Lyon in 2013 when chef Adam Bennett won 4th place in the prestigious competition (best meat dish) and, in his wake, Kristian Curtis was elected winner of the best commis category. Birmingham now has several starred restaurants and is a location for excellent Indian cuisine.

On 7 April 2014, the president of les toques blanches, Laurent Bouvier and Frederic Berthod renewed this partnership agreement at Birmingham City Hall and were invited on this occasion to join a panel of 8 chefs to choose the Best English Chef of the Year. Organised by the British Culinary Federation, the competition prize went to Adam Handling of St Ermin’s Hotel in London, for his main course and dessert.
