Birmingham (United Kingdom) in Lyon in August 2013
from 27 to 29 August 2013
Lyon have hosted a delegation led by the Mayor of Birmingham (United Kingdom) which will be visiting Lyon from 27 to 29 August 2013.
The Mayor of Birmingham was in Lyon in person to celebrate the opening of the avenue de Birmingham. Located at the exit of the renovated tunnel de la Croix-Rousse on the left back of the Saone, the avenue de Birmingham will be a route for use by buses and cars as well as pedestrians and cycles.
The city of Birmingham has the longest standing twinning arrangement with Lyon dating back to 1951. The partnership between the two cities has always been an active one and the two conurbations have for many years worked together on providing the most suitable solutions for our changing cities (urban planning, social cohesion, traffic forecasting, and dialogue between the residents of the districts being redeveloped, etc.).
The Birmingham city authority is working on the development of a major mobility action plan. With the preparatory survey phase complete, an examination was made of the urban mobility action plans of a number of cities across the world and it was the transport system in Lyon which was singled out as being an outstanding example of its kind. To mark the opening of the avenue de Birmingham, the Mayor of Birmingham and his team with responsibility for the new mobility action plan, will be making a field trip to find out more about urban mobility policy in Greater Lyon.
