Lyon - Rabat (Morocco) cooperation, key dates
Since 2007, the exchanges between Lyon and Rabat have taken various forms: expertise missions, seminars and training have been organised in both cities to consolidate the public transport and travel culture of the stakeholders in Rabat. This fertile partnership saw a physical result in 2010 with the completion of a specific cooperation project between the Greater Lyon Authority, the STRS (Société du Tramway de Rabat - Salé) and the AFD (Agence française de développement). The challenge? To support the STRS in bringing the tramway into operation.
In parallel, meetings on the economy have been organised on a regular basis since 2008 between Lyon and Rabat in order to promote the business flows between businesses in the two territories.
Since 2012, the city of Rabat and the AURS (Agence d'urbanisme de Rabat Salé) have enjoyed the support of Lyon in the production of its new urban development plan for the agglomeration. At the same time, the partners are undertaking a strategic reflection on urban planning and travel.
