International relations, Lyon - Jericho (Palestine)
Relations between Lyon and Jericho (Palestine) started in 2004, in the context of the International Conference of Mayors for Peace in the Middle East, held in Lyon.
Lyon - Jericho (Palestine) cooperation, key dates
In 2004, Lyon organised and hosted the International Conference of Mayors for Peace in the Middle East. This gathering marked the starting point for tripartite cooperation between the cities of Jericho (Palestine), Be'er Sheva (Israel) and Lyon, which then resulted in work between Palestinian, Israeli and European professional branches.
Between 2007 and 2008, three training missions in the Palestinian Territories were launched with the technical experts from Grand Lyon's Water Department. Subsequently, two Palestinian delegations visited Lyon for exchanges on the topic.
In 2008, Jericho reaped the benefit of an initiative by the Lyon and international association LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International). In the context of the “LightLinks” programme, the Palestinian city - associated with the Public Lighting Department of the City of Lyon in the technical implementation - thus inaugurated the festivities of "10,000 years of Jericho" in 2011 with the illumination of the site of the Palace of Hisham.
