Hotels: hotel market trends in Lyon (France, Europe)

Lyon counts on hotels for business

After a remarkable increase in demand in 2007 (7%), the hotel market in Lyon seems to have been spared from the difficulties afflicting French hotels and tourism.

As proof of the sector’s good resistance in the Lyon urban area, the average price per room is rising

With 1,000 additional rooms since 2003, hotels in the Lyon urban agglomeration counted 11,800 certified rooms at the end of December 2008.

They are found in some 190 hotels, including around 100 in the center of Lyon.

Although Paris is still the leader in French tourism, Lyon is well positioned:

  • whereas the average rate for three-and four-star hotels is 36% nationally,
  • that of Greater Lyon attains 41%, ahead of most other large cities.
