An accessible, dynamic, city connected to the world, 6 million visitors per year exceptional heritage and quality of life, first-class economic environment and large-scale hotel projects
Lyon, leading destination for urban tourism
Already a reference in business tourism, Lyon is without a doubt on the way to becoming a leading destination for urban tourism in Europe:
- with 6 million visitors in 2007,
- the city is right on the heels of wellknown destinations like Amsterdam, Berlin or Prague.
Lyon, in tune with business tourism needs
During the past few years, the needs of convention center clients have evolved. Representing a majority of foreigners, this clientele now favors destinations that are easily accessible and feature largecapacity, high-end hotel establishments.
- For this reason, Lyon attracts around 2.8 million business tourists each year*.
- In 2007, these visitors participated in around 27,200 events (+ 3% from 2006 to 2007).
Turnover generated by the conventions and meetings activity has consequently increased by
- + 52% in three years and represented
- 290 M€ in 2007.
A choice advantage for the Lyon economy
In 2007, Lyon welcomed 6 million visitors, including about 20% who were foreigners.
The summer of 2008 confirmed and amplified results that were already excellent, with a progression of around 5% as compared to the summer of 2007.
The success of internationally renowned exhibitions such as the one on Keith Haring or “Our Body” at La Sucrière has, of course, contributed to these positive results.
