Tourism and Greater Lyon: Lyon, where things happen
Shows, meetings, spectacles, exhibitions and sports: Lyon moves to the beat of national and international rhythms! The city is currently positioned among the European cities which are the most dynamic, innovative and functional in staging and welcoming special events.
More and more conventions and large shows
Between 2004 and 2008, the “Grandes manifestations” (big events) program has considerably reinforced the position of Lyon as a city for welcoming international meetings.
Implemented by the Office of Tourism and Conventions of Greater Lyon, the Lyon Convention Center and Eurexpo, this innovative system generated 9,443,000 participant-days in Greater Lyon (including meetings, fairs and shows) for 2007, or a growth of 44% in comparison to 2006.
As for average event length, it has increased from 2.5 days in 2006 to 3.2 days in 2007. This evolution is essentially due to an increase in the number of international events taking place in the urban area.

An attractive destination for pleasure tourism
Since the classification of its historic center as a part of UNESCO World Heritage in 1998, Lyon has modified its image and polished its appeal.
Today, this transformation has produced concrete results through a strong growth in tourist visits, notably during weekends and in the summer.
And the immense green areas of the city – such as the Tête d’Or Park, which is visited every year by over 2.2 million people, or the new Gerland Park – further enhance its attractiveness.
Lyon attracts a dynamic urban clientele that appreciates its multiple advantages: culture, festivals, shopping, etc.
There’s enjoyment for everyone! The success of the Olympique Lyonnais soccer club is another active stimulus behind the development of Lyon’s reputation.
All year long, Lyon holds diferent events...
