Axelera chemical environmental competitiveness cluster
The Lyon-Rhône-Alpes chemical/environmental competitiveness cluster was created by uniting local industrial, training and research actors in the chemical and environmental fields around a common vision: "To switch from chemicals manufacture that seeks to mitigate its impacts to state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques that integrate environmental concerns from the outset".
Axelera actors
Axelera is a cluster with an international focus, initiated by Greater Lyon, created by Arkema, the CNRS, the IFP, Rhodia and Suez, and accredited in July 2005.
With 115 members by the end of 2006, Axelera has already demonstrated its power of attraction and its unifying capability. One third of its members are SME’s/SMI’s, as stated in the cluster’s SME agreement, which it signed in March 2006.
The ambition of Axelera
Marrying chemistry and the environment
“To accelerate the creation of an international industrial and scientific sector that marries chemical manufacture with environmental concerns”.
The objective of Axelera
To become the window on "tomorrow’s chemistry"
Axelera’s ambition is to become the window on “tomorrow’s chemistry” and to cement a position as the leading international industrial and scientific cluster by 2012.
Axelera actions
In order to achieve this objective, the cluster unites and coordinates industrial, business, research and training actors around 12 technological cooperation projects, divided into three main themes (catalysis, processes and materials). Currently, six of these projects have been put together and two have been launched.
In addition, there are five cross-disciplinary projects underway, designed to create a technological and economic structure for the cluster and to encourage its international expansion:
- image, dialogue and engagement with society
- training – future jobs and skills management
- financial engineering and project evaluation
- expansion and entrepreneurship
- intelligence and economic monitoring
